His sports background is Gaelic Football, Hurling and Basketball... until he did his first triathlon in 2003. "I signed up 2 weeks before the Westwood Charity Triathlon having done only some running and very little biking and swimming. Trained pretty hard as I had to beat my girlfriend who was also competing. Really enjoyed the race and got the bug from there"
"As for the first impressions of the gear obviously very impressed with the bike! If it's a case of look good = feel good = race good then shouldn't have any problems this season! Took the bike out for a Spin Sunday and Wednesday morning. Was pulling the mick a bit going out with the flash wheels but wanted to give the whole package a try (Training wheels on now)! Couldn't believe how comfortable the frame was... made me feel like I was on a lesser bike so had to keep standing up to check the response from the frame - which was way more rigid even then the Scandium La Pierre"

Welcome to Scotland and to the Adventure Racing World Championship 2007:
Thursday 24 May - Saturday 2 June.
The Adventure Racing World Championship 2007 will take the best teams on Earth on a journey right into the very heart of this magical wilderness where they will discover and explore the richness of this ancient land.
CSS are sponsoring two Irish AR teams who are due to participate in the up coming World Adventure Racing Championships race called the Wilderness Arc.
The Teams are Irish AR Denny - Paul Mahon, Eoin Keith, Roisin Mc Donnell and Vanessa Lawrenson
and Irish AR Ballyfree - Paul Mc Arthur, Bob Boles, Moire O Sullivan and Chris Caulfield.
Disciplines: trekking, kayaking, mountain biking, swimming, rope-work & surprise activities
Paul Mahon from AR Denny Team:
Our thoughts on the race can probably be summarised along the following lines:
Primary aim of both teams is to survive the race and elements and finish the full course as an entire team.
For example the world champs in 2005 in New Zealand had 6 finishing team out of 40 starting teams.
Similarly the 2005 Wilderness Arc race had 9 finishing teams (Irish AR had teams in 4th and 5th) out of 29 starting teams.
The teams that have qualified include professional teams from 22 countries round the globe so a top half finish is our secondary aim though if conditions and the race go in our favour then an assault on the top 20 or higher is a definite possibility.
Our preferred conditions would be to have some wild weather on the mountains, of which there are sure to be plenty given that there is due to be 25,000 metres of climb involved in the race

Irish AR Denny Team

Irish AR Ballyfree Team
Till the end of year 2006 we
were proud equipment supplier of TEAM MURPHY & GUNN NEWLYN Irelands first
professional cycling team. Also we were proud to help Mark Nestor
keeping with our vision of helping young talent, Mark rode a Lapierre
Ultimate Carbon bike for the two seasons. Now he is a member of the
development squad on Irelands first professional team. MURPHY &
GUNN NEWLY team.
Murphy&Gunn/Newlyn
Team Murphy & Gunn / Newlyn will comprise of 14 Irish riders and
will begin as a continental or third division professional team. The
squad will have a totally Irish back up staff, main sponsors and
management team. The team is a progression of the Murphy & Gunn
amateur squad of the past three years and has attracted some of
Ireland’s top young riders from all around the country. The squad will
be led by former Irish road race champion and ex-Tonnisteiner
professional Morgan Fox from Athlone, and will focus primarily on the
development of young Irish cyclists nationwide.
The aim of the team
is to give young Irish riders a chance to develop through optimising
the best of what Ireland has to offer in terms resources and expertise.
The team will be the only professional cycling team based in Ireland
but as well as tackling the country’s most important races, will travel
abroad regularly to ride top international races. The squad has already
received invites for the Giro Del Capo in South Africa, the Sun Tour in
Australia, the Presidential Tour of Turkey and many more international
events, with the FBD Rás at home a top priority. Ireland’s highest
ranked coach, Padraig Marrey, will coach the team. The Balinrobe man is
a former national coach and also trains Irish professionals David
O’Loughlin and former U/18 world champion Mark Scanlon. The team will
be managed by Myles Gallagher with former Irish national team director
Declan Byrne as Directeur Sportif.
Team road captain Morgan Fox, the first Irish cyclist to turn
professional since the days of Kelly and Roche, when he signed for the
Belgian Tonnisteiner squad in 2001, said: “This is an unbelievable
opportunity for young Irish cyclists. Before, if you wanted to be a
professional,, you had to go and live in a foreign country, learn a new
language, maybe two new languages, and deal with a totally new culture".
Because of this, some very good young Irish cyclists never made it to
the top of the sport. Thanks to Murphy & Gunn and Newlyn Group,
youngsters are getting the chance to ride international races from a
base in Ireland. They don’t have to give up the comforts of home in the
early years and that really helps a lot”.
Team
Murphy & Gunn / Newlyn Group will ride Pinarello F4-13 bikes and
will wear Giordana clothing, DMT shoes and Rudy Project glasses,
courtesy of Yello Ltd. and the Cycle Superstore in Tallaght. Team cars
will be BMW’s supplied by Murphy & Gunn. Communications will be
sponsored by Ergo while Columbia Clothing will supply the team’s
leisure wear and Lucozade will supply sports drinks to the squad.
