MTB Safety Tips

There are a lot of ways to improve mountain bike safety. Some will argue, including myself, that wearing a helmet is the single most important step you can take. However, the second most important step should never be overlooked; you should always ride in control!
Start smart, go big! - Work your way up to obstacles and stunts. Find ways to practice moves in less difficult and dangerous situations or at lower speeds before committing yourself to something more dangerous. This is the best way of picking up experience in various situations. When riding with more experienced lads - remember - there is no shame in slowing down or walking down the sections if you don't feel confident enough to ride! Get used to the trial! and the next time you'll be in the mountains you'll be ready for the next step.
OK there is no way to avoid the crash... Plan it so!
Always look at the consequences of crashing in a particular section or on a particular stunt before trying to ride through it. Sometimes a section can look easy to ride but can have deadly consequences to a crash.
Now some tips about safety gear:
The beginner mountain biker can get a little overwhelmed when they first walk into a bike store to buy their first mountain bike and all of the mountain bike accessories they will need to start riding. There is no shortage of mountain bike accessories and related product that you can buy. The sales staff will certainly sell you anything they can but the real question for beginners and bikers on a budget is not what mountain bike accessories are cool, but what you need to have to make your rides safe and enjoyable. Start with these accessories and you won’t come up short on the trail.
The Bike Helmet – The Most Important Mountain Bike Accessory
This is a shameless plea, but please wear a bike helmet. Nobody should be on a bike without a helmet. There have been too many people with serious head injuries that could have been prevented if they were wearing a helmet. Modern mountain bike helmets are both comfortable and stylish and everyone on the trail wears one.
There is 2 types of helmets - standard one and Full Face. In most cases you'll need standard helmet but if you are one of those "freaks" who do cool drops and go downhill with speed of 40km/h definitely go for full face helmet! Remember! Before getting new helmet make sure it is the right size for you. Use our Size Chart available in every helmet's description for the best fit.

Mountain Bike Gloves – A Mountain Bike Accessory for Comfort and Safety
When you ride, your hands can take a beating. Beginners who tend to keep a death grip on the handlebars can be especially brutal on their hands. Your hands are also one of the first things to come down to the ground when you crash and everyone crashes at some point. Mountain bike gloves are a great mountain bike accessory because they take the beating for you. I recommend full-fingered gloves over the cutoff finger type. Don’t get caught red handed.

Protection Pads - Give yourself confidence while descending
Extra accessories mean more to carry uphill. But if it comes to crash - there is no better protection for your knees and elbows than Protective Pads. Nowadays protection wear is designed to give you maximum comfort combined with minimum weight.

Mountain Bike Shorts – Ride Longer and Stay Comfortable
The first few mountain bike rides you take can be a bit uncomfortable on the rear end. Your body does adjust to this after a few rides, but bike shorts are a great accessory that can help keep it to a minimum. Fortunately, the days of the tight fitting Lycra mountain bike shorts are over. You can still buy them and some racers still use them but the more comfortable padded mountain bike shorts of today look and feel much more casual. Some of our shorts have extra protection added on sides to minimise risk of injuries.

Hydration System – Keep Yourself Hydrated and safe
Take a hydration backpack such as a Camelbak or similar product. It is easy to let yourself get dehydrated so bring water with you and drink it on the trail to keep your body running properly as you ride. Moreover the water reservoir in backpack creates extra protection if you land on your back.

Body Armour - for people who engage in dynamic cycling!
Designed to give protection for DH/Freeride racing! Nowadays body armours are designed to give comfort and protection of chest, back, shoulders and elbows. Believe or not - after a first ride it is like second layer of clothing!
