Rollers

Entry level in the home trainer market. Rollers were developed to help track racers loosen up before and during race meetings. They look difficult to ride on but in reality are no more difficult to master than....riding a bike. Rollers remain great warm-up tools and are good for developing a smooth pedalling stroke but are restricted in their use as a training aid by a lack of adjustable resistance. You won't be able to develop power or keep your heart rate up beyond spinning like a windmill.

Magnetic Trainers

The first generation indoor trainers that were developed because of a need for more resistance . Featured a turbine that created wind drag to increase your workout level. They were non adjustable, limiting the functionality of the units, and made more noise than a plane taking off. Fortunately, the clever engineering types managed to find a way to use magnetic resistance which is not only quieter but is adjustable by moving the magnets closer to or futher from the revolving flywheel. Simple to use and easy to store, these units are ideal for someone on a strict budget, or riders who will only use their indoor trainer infrequently.

Fluid Trainers

Fluid resistance trainers offer realistic feedback that mimics conditions out on the road by responding to minute changes in speed and power more progressively. This is especially important at lower speeds and cadences as it removes the jerkiness sometimes found on magnetic and wind trainers. These are for experienced riders looking to ride regularly indoors, and wanting the best ride possible from an indoor set-up but without the budget of an Ergo Trainer.

Ergo Trainers

Until recently machines that measured your power output were the big budget domain of university labs and sports science centres. Increasingly power is being used as a more accurate training measure than Heart Rate. There is number of trainers on the market that measure this for you, allowing you to use the cold winter months not just to maintain fitness, but to increase your power for the following season without the short term loss of form. The handlebar mounted unit provides you with feedback of your speed, time and power will keep you amused for long enough to make your indoor sessions worth the effort, if not - turn them from dreaded sessions to longed-for ones.

Virtual Reality Trainers

Elite has a system called Realaxiom in its 2005 line up that also offers PC connectivity to enhance your indoor workout. Basically, the trainer is hooked up to a computer and you can ride virtual courses, against virtual riders keeping you entertained and motivated for much longer periods than a standard trainer. For the majority of riders. 45 minutes imitating a hamster is barely manageable, but with VR systems available today, a two hour ride becomes not just possible but enjoyable. However, all this fun and function does not come cheap. This is a developing product we expect to be able to add more routes and courses in time .It may also be possible to add your own(favourite) home course.

Accessories

  • Block: Finally if you decide for trainer you'll still have to support your front wheel while the back one is spinning. Elite training block will support your wheel and keep your handlebars in the same position
  • Sweatnet: Helps you to keep the bike clean from your sweat. You'll notice that training at home is more sweaty than cycling because of simple reason. There is no cooling air flowing around you
  • Training Mat to reduce noise and vibrations from your trainer. Imagine somebody on the next floor training everyday in your favourite evening hours when you are finally back from work and all you want is to see your favourite movie. There is another advantage - you keep your floor clean from sweat and dirt. You can allways easily roll your mat and throw it to the wardrobe
