• Every type of stem comes in different length sizes (mm).
• The stem length affects both your bicycle's handling and your riding position.
• The length of a stem is measured from the center point of the steerer tube to the center point of the handlebar.
• Shorter stems (40 - 80mm) offer quick, responsive steering, coften featured on mountain bikes.
• Longer stems (80 - 130mm), often used on road bikes, improve stability at higher speed.
• Gravel bikes typically fall in between, balancing agility and control with stem length (60 - 90mm).
• The stem also influences riding position, mainly your reach.
• A longer stem extends your arms forward, resulting in a more aerodynamic position with your upper body folding over the bike.
• Conversely, a shorter stem allows for a more upright riding position with your hands closer to your body.
