FPS2 suspension system is the second generation of Lapierre's rear suspension system design around Virtual Pivoting Point concept. The main idea with this system is to have a suspension that is in the same time very plush, pedal bob free and sensitive.
So what are the advantages of FPS2 bikes in the real word? It allows you to have a bike with very plush suspension that climbs like a hardtail, without sacrificing comfort or suspension performance during downhill.

To achieve all this goals FPS2 systems is using double linkage that connects the front and rear triangle of the frame. These linkages are moving into opposite directions and this allows FPS2 suspension to have unique "S" shaped patch of rear wheel.

When the suspension of FPS2 bikes is in proper SAG position (SAG: The amount of travel your suspension compresses with your body weight) it finds its Equilibrium point, where virtual pivot point is aligned with the chain. During pedaling the tension of the chain prevents and pedaling bob caused by your body movement, these two forces are fighting against each other.

Putting that into simple words any suspension movement away form Equilibrium point is extending the distance of the rear wheel form bottom bracket and chain tension during pedaling it pulling the rear wheel back to Equilibrium position. The FPS2 system is constantly correcting itself.

Because of the fact that the rear wheel is moving backwards during suspension compression, when the bike hits a bump or a rock it is not going to slow down as much and you will feel less impact comparing to other suspension designs. It will allow you to go faster and with more confidence through the rock gardens or bumpy terrain.

In virtual pivot point bikes the SAG setting is crucial for optimal suspension performance and to make it easier Lapierre puts indicator on all FPS2 frames to make setting up SAG of your bikes as easy as possible.
